The largest clinical study on hot yoga to date, involving 3,200 participants across 20 centers, found that practicing Bikram-style hot yoga three times per week reduces generalized anxiety by 44%.

Study Design

Participants practiced 90-minute hot yoga sessions at 105°F for 12 weeks. The control group performed equivalent exercise in normal temperatures. The hot yoga group showed significantly greater anxiety reduction.

The Heat Factor

Researchers believe the combination of heat stress and mindful movement triggers a unique neurological response, increasing GABA neurotransmitter levels and promoting parasympathetic nervous system activation.
